eCommerce

Friday, April 28th, 2006

So the other day I ordered two Blogger Hoodies off of the Google Store website, and they were only $17.25 so the total order came to $34.50! Sweat deal and all, so I added shipping in my head, and it was a nice purchase for maybe $45 or so.

Wrong I was.

I got an email today that looks something like this:

PLEASE NOTE: Your order will not ship until you have replied to this email accepting the additional shipping charges.

Thanks very much for your order! We appreciate the opportunity to serve you.

The first thing we wish to caution you about is the high relative expense of shipping promotional products internationally. Often times freight, customs and duties can add up to a total that is significantly higher than the cost of the products you wish to purchase.

We apologize to you in advance for the shock you will receive when you review the shipping and handling quote. Please be aware that these charges are not a profit center for us and are due to the various duties and taxes charged by countries around the globe.

The total shipping charges listed below includes any duties and/or taxes or customs fees that your country charges for imports.

With those words of caution, please see our freight estimate, below, for your review:

Net Amount of Your Order: $34.50
Shipping Charges: $41.20

The Total Order Amount is the amount we would need to charge to ship this order. Please let us know if you would like to proceed with this order. Your order will ship once we receive this confirmation. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

PLEASE NOTE: Your order will not ship until you have replied to this email accepting the additional shipping charges.

Holy CRAP! $41.20 in shipping on a $34.50 order! Welcome to E-commerce Paulish….ugh. So I got one question: If I don’t want to go through with the order, can I reply to the email saying “No, blah blah you suck blah”, or will that count as a reply and they will ship? Wasn’t too well worded in that case.

Anyways, I turned to Ebay in hopes that maybe someone in their mid-life cris bought them in bulk and was trying to sell them without all that crazy shipping cost. I type Blogger Hoodie into the box and it comes up with nothing. So then search just Blogger and it comes up with results like below!

Click to make bigger.

Holy CRAP! wtf does all this have to do with Blogger? So I look back up at the search box and it now says Bigger. So I change it back to Blogger, and hit search again, then it auto-changes back to Bigger. As if it really thinks I’m trying to search the term Bigger instead of Blogger! Aaaaaagh!

First experience with e-commerce by the way. I thought mabye it would be cool to use my credit card to buy something online. This whole thing sucks.

Bowling Scores & Birthdays

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

So for the first time in ages, I went bowling with Nate again! It was just last Monday evening (Which also happened to be his and Ray’s birthday – they are twins), and we got our usual six games. On the second game, I was on quite a roll with a refreshing streak of 4 strikes which helped kick my grand total up to 194. Just a few more points and I’d finally break that 200 mark. Hah…over half my strikes were in that one game!

Nate and I have got a small bet going – $10 per 100 point cap sorta thing – So whoever broke 100 first gave the other $10, and it’ll be a smashing $20 to the person who breaks 200 first. Don’t think it’ll get much further than that though.

Here’s a scan of my score sheet.

Click on the scoresheets to make them larger!

Oh, and Nate might not like this, but here’s his scores from the evening =P

Happy Birthday Ray & Nate!

What’s Your Connection Speed?

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

A Shaw guy came by for us finally to fix our connection problems… we were getting 1/4 the speed we are paying for. He checked it out and replaced our modem, and now it’s much better =)

Here’s a website he used to check our connection speed:
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

You just click on the location that you live closest to on the left – Seattle, WA for me, and at the end it’ll tell you your download/upload speeds!

My Stats:
Download: 4821
Upload: 333
Math Corner:
The speeds are in kbps which is kilobits per second, and since there are 8 bits to a byte, that 4821 download translates to 603 kilobytes per second (4821/8), which is 0.58 megabytes per second (603/1024). Hoorah for fastness again!

Broken Teeth

Friday, April 21st, 2006

So we removed what we thought was the inspection panel thing, but it turned out to be the access panel thing to the transmission, which drained all that red tranny fluid out of it, haha….we figure that fluid hasn’t been changed in eons so its alright. But after, we got the inspection panel off and we can clearly see some broken teeth after turning the wheel a bit. I’ve attached some pics just incase you were cirious about seeing them =P

Now we’ve got a whole load of work ahead of us! =)

Funny Funny Comedy

Friday, April 21st, 2006

So the comedy group’s normal “Do-run” game went along the lyrics as follows while trying to rhyme with the name Brock:

a do run run run a do run run
shibbidy do yeah
I went down to the dock
shibbidy do yeah
I put on a sock
shibbidy do yeah
It was on my cock
a do run run run a do run run

Oh Russ how you make us laugh when you step out of line… Here’s the link to their blog, check out April 20th for their post on his “serious offense”!

Great show guys! I especially laughed when that older man came up to be the arm in that game and was continually holding Jeff’s left breast!
