First Design for PaulRomein.ca

Monday, January 28th, 2008

I’ve just completed about five hours of work, yielding the first real look to the paulromein.ca domain. Here’s a screenshot:

Check it out for yourself:

www.paulromein.ca/

Currently it is a small and simple collection of a few pages strung together with some nice css and graphic work. There is zero php or mysql work yet, which is the next huge step. This is just the beginning as I plan to add much more, and eventually migrate my blog and my main film site over to paulromein.ca. I have plans to re-build and improve them when I move them and it will take oodles of work – so don’t expect it anytime soon. For now, at least my domain doesn’t look amateur!

Last night I finally hooked up my webspace and got it working! I now can post whatever the heck I want on www.paulromein.ca! Sort of like my friend www.markbakker.ca and www.seanhagen.ca, and their website stuffs. Now I’m part of the web geek club!

For now I just put up the page you see above as a temp while I look to find some time to stow away in my basement for many hours to draft up what I really want to put up there!

Murder Mystery

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

For my afternoon, I had Fader over and we chatted some about film. We particularity went into detail with some planning for the Whistler project and attempted to draw it back so we can do a test run of it for a school project for him.

In the evening I went on over to Janet‘s place to play in a Murder Mystery for her birthday party! It was tonnes of fun and was a great success – here’s a bunch of photos of the evening:

Tokbox

This morning I found a cool website where you can do video calls in the browser – without having to install anything!

I knew it was possible because flash can handle that sort of stuff, so it was a simple search, but I found more than I was looking for! This thing doesn’t only handle simple video chats between two people, but as you can see from the screenshot above, it can handle conference calls between up to six people! We had a funny time with microphone echoes because we didn’t all have headsets, but it still worked quite nicely!

Paulish Approved: www.tokbox.com

Go make your login!

The nice part is that you don’t have to sign up to do the basic video chats, but if you want access to things like being able to send video mail, or initiate the video calls, you just have to go through a very simple and quick registration that only asks for email and name. It’s quite an awesome site, and I highly recommend it.

Rambo Marathon

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

This morning we pushed play on the movie First Blood (which is technically Rambo I). Brian, Fader, and I have been waiting for this moment for a few days now where we sat through all the Rambo movies. That’s right – following First Blood, we popped in Rambo: First Blood Part 2 (Rambo 2), and Adrienn even joined us for a bit!

After Rambo II, we had to run off to go rent Rambo III – they didn’t have it when I went to the movie store to get the others.

Back at home, we finished off the series – just the three of us. Fader had to run off to work for 5pm, and I took that time to nap because I didn’t get much sleep last night. In the evening, I had organized a huge group of people to come see the new Rambo movie, simply titled Rambo (Rambo 4). It’s funny because all the titles of the movies are different in the way that they are numbered:

  • the first one technically isn’t even called Rambo
  • the second one is called first blood part II, which technically speaking is second blood
  • the third one is correctly Rambo III – good work!
  • however, they had a good thing going and managed to screw up the last one and they forgot to tag the number 4 on the end!

Anyways, I think we perfectly took up one row at the theater, which was Darren, Ray, Sasha, Brian, Steph, Mr. Pelley, Mr. Pelley’s Friend, Me, Sean, Adrienn, Jessy, Mark and Fader. I think I got us all there… in seat order too.

The new movie was awesome – tonnes of blood. And just like the new Rocky movie fit perfectly in with it’s series, this new Rambo movie fit in perfectly with it’s own series. We would be experts because we’ve held marathons for both series now! Hoorah for Sylvester Stallone!

After the movie, a bunch of us went over to the Golden Spike Pub, and had a good social time.

Blogging Catchup

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Last night I spent around six hours catching up on my January blogging. So for all those out there who are too lazy to blog… you have no excuse anymore. It can be done.

The following is a list of the new posts this month that I added last night:
