Adorable Puppies Video and Photos with New DSLR

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Mark is buying a Vizsla puppy, and we went down to visit the breeder in Blaine, Washington on Sunday morning! I got to spend the morning playing with our new Nikon D7000 filming and taking pictures of puppies! So adorable!

The following is a 6 min 40 second reel of the whole visit, with very minor image correction. I’ll probably edit it down to a minute or two later, for those who don’t have as much love for puppies!

And here’s the top photos too:

Snowboarding at Cypress

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Spencer and I went up after work yesterday and had an amazing time up there on Cypress! Some of the best snow we’ve ever seen up there! Really foggy at first, but it cleared up toward the end. We did 16 runs in the 2.5 hours that we were there. That’s an average of 9.4 minutes per run, including the 5-6 minute chairlift ride!

Only hit a max speed of 58km/h, but I pulled a 720, and hit some killer jumps with grabs!

There’s been a big mix-up with the Google Team who created the MyTracks app for GPS tracking these trails, and the Google My Maps team. Looks like they decided to discontinue supporting My Maps API, and to start using Google Fusion Tables instead. The MyTracks app team appears to have been caught off guard and is playing catch-up to fix this. For now, they’ve hooked it up so that we can upload our stuff to Fusion Tables, but it’s many extra steps in there to get my maps public so it’s become very frustrating. I hope them come up with a fix soon.

Canoeing Widgeon Creek with Kristy

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

Kristy and I canoed up Widgeon Creek today! The weather was cloudy with patches of sun. A high of 4 degrees Celsius… we layered up and were nice and warm! We paddled just over 10km and saw a whole bunch of wildlife up the creek! There were easily over a dozen hawks, a bald eagle, and two sea-creatures we’re not sure if they were otters or seals!

Morning Hike Up Diez

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

Woke up at 5am and got to the trailhead for 6am where Willi and I set off. Wettest trail conditions we’ve ever seen up there! A good few inches of snow too coming down the back-side.

Mount Seymour: September 4, 2010

Monday, September 6th, 2010

On Saturday, a friend and I did a little stroll up Mount Seymour. Left the parking lot at 2:20pm after paying just $3 for parking. Not really used to having to pay for parking when hiking, but still cheap and no worries! Also, I just got a new camera (Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS) and I had lots of fun taking photos up there! Really clear and beautiful shots!

Took just 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to the first pump peak. Great view from there! Possibly even better than the actual top of Mount Seymour.

Also, here’s a short video of the view from the first peak:

We continued on and took a break on top of the second pump peak, and then reached the Seymour peak at 4:28pm.

On the way back, we had lots of left over energy so we jogged down the ski-hill area.

Some really fun terrain up around the fist pump peak and beyond, but lots and lots of people up there. Great to see people being active, but I like being a bit more alone with wilderness when I’m hiking. Overall, a nice little 11km stroll to keep the muscles warm! Took just 3.5 hours round trip.

Stats and graphs from my phone’s GPS app:

Here’s the GPS track on Google Maps:

Would love to continue out to Elsay Lake sometime! Does anyone know of any trails that continue out even further from there?

Drive-in Movies at Coquitlam Centre!

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

This evening, Mike and I went down to Coquitlam Center to watch How To Train Your Dragon on the Drive-In screen!  The evening was a bit of a novelty, as it’s not very oftem we get to go to Drive-In’s.  The big screen was setup on the roof where the roof-parking is, and facing out for all to see!  We got there relatively early, but the place was jam packed already!  …We found a better spot outside the designated area.

There were a bunch of trees in the parking lot that obstructed lots of people’s views, so we had a bunch of stupid people moving spots a lot toward the beginning.  The sound was being played loudly up toward the front (but it was really quiet even where we were) and was also broadcast over 89.5fm, so it was great listening to it with my car’s sound system!

They had three evenings that they’ve done this event, tonight being the last one.  Hope that they keep it up next summer!
