No Phone Reason #4

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Cell phones are great for when things go wrong and you’re supposed to be somewhere, you can call with a quick “I’m sorry, I’m running 15 minutes late.” The problem with cell phones is when you and all your friends have cell phones, no one is willing to make firm plans. Instead of the old “let’s meet at 3pm” it’s now “I’ll call you when I get there.” Which really turns into an epic relay of phone-tag that can become really frustrating.

Reason #4 is that it’s convenience can sometimes be perhaps too convenient and have negative side effects.

No Phone Reason #3

What if the phone breaks? Cellphones are notorious for breaking and having to be replaced, and in some extreme cases you can lose all the data on the phone. Most people save important numbers and such solely in their phone and they would may have no way of getting it back. And sometimes if it is possible to retrieve the data, the companies charge you through the roof for the important data to get put onto a new phone – which means you also need to buy that new phone!

Also, being somewhat of a geek, I know that I would spend a while putting my own personal tweaks on the phone and exploring every nook and cranny of the phone – which would all be lost if it broke down. In the end it would be more wasted time that I could be spending taking apart the guts of a friends’ computer.

Reason #3 is that I don’t want to rely on an electronic device that is notorious for breaking.

No Phone Reason # 2

It’s really annoying to be hanging out with someone and have them every minute or so flip out their phone in the middle of whatever, like a conversation with you, or when watching a movie, or when eating with them, or whatever… First of all it’s kind of annoying to only have half their attention, and secondly its a tad rude. It’s almost like people who just pick up their phone in the middle of a conversation with you, and just change who their talking to. Also I would hate to pay for that crap on a phone, when really one should just dial their number and use the phone to its full potential and actually just talk.

Reason #2 is that I don’t want to deal with random text-messages from people who have nothing better to do.

No Phone Reason # 1

I’m going to start listing the reasons why I won’t get a cell phone as I remember them…

First of all I’m going to start with one that came to me yesterday. I would hate to have someone calling me and calling me making it keep ringing while I’m sleeping. Sleeping is sacred time and I hate even when people come with the house phone saying its a call for me. I’ve got it down to a small list of people where I’ve pre-informed my family to wake me up for it, else tell them I’m busy and make a list of people I’ll call when I wake up. It would seriously make me quite frustrated at my phone, and the person to wake up to that darn thing ringing at me to take me away from precious sleep time. And to top it all off, I would be PAYING to have this annoyance! I would never pay for an alarm clock to wake me up – I barely put up with the damn thing as it is.

Reason #1 is that I won’t pay for something to disrupt my precious sleep.
