Bowling at New Place in Coquitlam

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

A few of us old chums went down to the new bowling place near Silver City Coquitlam.  It was my first time down there, and I found it pretty slick looking!  The wait on a Friday night was about an hour, which is about on par.  Some of us grabbed some bubble-tea from the strip-mall it’s part of, but we weren’t able to indulge in some beer because the restaurant isn’t open yet!  Here is a print out from our two games:

Legend: B Rye = Brian Romein, Fox = Karilee, Goob = Jessy’s friend, Lady XIV = Ange, MCWOO = Mike Waddell, OGIE = Jessy, Paulish = Me!

A neat new thing I learned this evening was from the guy at the beginning – it takes about 15 minutes per person for a game.  I took us on average about 13-14, but its still an awesome way to guess how long you’ll be bowling for!

Geotagged Photos from Elk Mountain

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

I did it finally!  I’ve been dying to play around with syncing my GPS logging with all the photos I take along the way for a few weeks now – just ask Sean.  This evening I got a little bit of time so I did some quick searching online and found a sweet free and opensource program called gpicsync which does exactly what I need!  Check out this link below to see an example:

I went up Elk Mountain this afternoon with Sheena – we hiked 9.90km and saw some neat tiny frogs along the way!  I’ve managed to quickly drop all my photos along the trail with that neat program according to the time and location they were taken!  I just need a few more hours to program a script to do all the small bits of work that it requires.  Then I can pretty much automate the process and have it geotag them in no time!

Hiking The Lions

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

target_lions

This morning I woke up just past the crack of dawn and headed up to hike The Lions!  The total round trip took Lisa and I 6 hours and 50 minutes, including a 45 minute break that we took sitting on top of the West Lion.  The total trek was 17km, including our actual climb up the West Lion.  It wasn’t in the books, but there was a creepy rope path/climb that took about 30 minutes to actually summit the Lion.  You can check out our GPS log on Google Maps, check out the 175 photos in my web albums, or click on the image below to check out the high-res panorama shot I stitched from the top!

Lastly, here’s the other data logged by my GPS on the hike, logged by My Tracks.  The battery did cut out on our descent so it isn’t completely accurate.

Mark’s Black Tusk Photos

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Mark brought his Nikon D80 SLR with us and took some pretty epic shots! The best that I’ve seen so far is this crazy panoramic shot he took up from the very top of the Black Tusk!

There’s also a whole bunch more in a photo album on his website.
