Hiking The Lions

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

This morning I woke up just past the crack of dawn and headed up to hike The Lions!  The total round trip took Lisa and I 6 hours and 50 minutes, including a 45 minute break that we took sitting on top of the West Lion.  The total trek was 17km, including our actual climb up the West Lion.  It wasn’t in the books, but there was a creepy rope path/climb that took about 30 minutes to actually summit the Lion.  You can check out our GPS log on Google Maps, check out the 175 photos in my web albums, or click on the image below to check out the high-res panorama shot I stitched from the top!

Lastly, here’s the other data logged by my GPS on the hike, logged by My Tracks.  The battery did cut out on our descent so it isn’t completely accurate.

Black Tusk GPS Log, Photos, and more!

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

We just got back down from the Black Tusk hike this afternoon, and it was amazing! The five of us had a blast – Nate, Sheena, Mark, Chloe, and myself! Yesterday we hiked about 18km from the parking lot, up to the top of the Black Tusk (the very top, even up the chimney), then back down to our campsite at Taylor Meadows. Today, we hiked 10.24km from the campsite down to the parking lot. A trip total of 28km!

I took a grand total of 562 photos (all on one battery – with juice to spare!) which you can find all of in my web albums!

I also brought my phone with me on airplane mode, logging our tracks via GPS.  You can check out the maps easily on google maps for day one and day two separately.

My phone battery died about 10 minutes into our descent down from the Tusk.  But it logged the important part of getting up there! A really cool thing that I just tried out was that you can download these KML files (day oneday two) and open the GPS log in Google Earth! It pops all the mountain terrain into 3D and has our little path along it! Also, here’s the screenshots from the GPS logging program on my phone called MyTracks with some more cool info:

Going to Germany

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

EuropeI’ve mostly confirmed plans to travel to Germany this coming September for two weeks! I’ve shared it with a bunch of people already, but I just thought I’d share it here!  I’m pretty excited – I’ll be flying over with Harley, then we’ll be parting ways and going off on our own to both visit family and tour around!  At the end of our two weeks, we plan to meet up in Munich for the true Oktoberfest celebrations which occur in the last weeks of September!  Just so happens this will be my second time attending these hearty Germany festivities in the heart of where they originated!  I was back there in 2005 with Ray and Dan – and it’s going to be stellar to be back!

Also, I think I might try to hit up some new countries I haven’t been to before… maybe Sweeden, Belgium, or Switzerland?  Depends on the costs and whatnot, but what the heck – I’m already just around the corner to most of these places when I’m in Germany!  Awe, and my passport just expired in May, so I’ll have to go renew it.

Best Job In the World – Video Draft

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Greg and I just finished making an application video for Greg to apply for the ‘Greatest Job in the World’!  Basically the job is getting paid exorbitant amounts of money to be the island’s caretaker for six-months.  It’s a pretty sweet deal, and we figured that since he was going there anyways, why not drop in an entry!

Below is the draft of our submission, and we’re looking for any feedback anyone might have before we actually submit it!

Also, just a reminder that Greg leaves on February 10th, so start checking his blog around then for his trip updates!

WordCamp Whistler 2009 Panorama

This morning, I woke up bright and early…. well, not so bright. But anyways, Tim and I went up to Whistler to attend an event call WordCamp, which is basically a WordPress get-together conference to network with some other cool local bloggers! We got some sweet free swag like a limited edition WordPress toque!

Check out more photos in my web albums!

Vacation at Shuswap Part 5

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Well technically its not really part of the vacation at Shuswap – I drove home this morning.  That’s about it!  It was a magnificent clear day and traffic didn’t get in my way at all!  I listened to all of The Wall, followed by Dark Side Of The Moon, and then Wish You Were Here.  By that time, I think I was only around Hope, so I just put my Zune on random and listened to a random list made out of nearly 900 songs that I have on there!

I stopped at the coffee shop for coffee & WiFi to post some stuff, and I left by 9:30am.  With only one stop to go pee and buy a Vanilla Bean Frappiccino, I was home by 1:50pm.
