Two Hikes with Ray’s Puppy, Grissom

March 21st, 2011

This last weekend, I wanted to get out and do some hiking but the mountain tops still have lots of snow from the winter. I also didn’t have a hiking buddy to go anywhere more remote with. This led me over to a couple really popular hiking destinations: Buntzen Lake, and Minnekhada. And I got to bring Grissom (Ray’s dog) with me!!

Saturday morning I made pancakes, and loaded the puppy into the car. We drove to Buntzen – my first time driving with a dog in the car. I’ve never done the full loop around, so I just found the trailhead and set out. I didn’t know how far or long the loop was, so I walked until 4:15pm, and then doubled back to the car. Turns out from looking at my GPS tracks, that I almost made it half-way around!

We clocked 6.5km, and when I got the puppy home, Ray said he wasn’t even tired!

…So the next, day I decided to take him out again! I decided that a lake loop trail was fairly flat, and I wanted to test him out a little more. I took him up a 280 meter elevation gain hike up Minnekhada. He was a super climber!

We made it down from the peak in 30 minutes, including stops for people to pet him! I think he was a little tired later on too. Here’s the GPS track from Minnekhada:

Adorable Puppies Video and Photos with New DSLR

February 21st, 2011

Mark is buying a Vizsla puppy, and we went down to visit the breeder in Blaine, Washington on Sunday morning! I got to spend the morning playing with our new Nikon D7000 filming and taking pictures of puppies! So adorable!

The following is a 6 min 40 second reel of the whole visit, with very minor image correction. I’ll probably edit it down to a minute or two later, for those who don’t have as much love for puppies!

And here’s the top photos too:

Snowboarding at Cypress

February 17th, 2011

Spencer and I went up after work yesterday and had an amazing time up there on Cypress! Some of the best snow we’ve ever seen up there! Really foggy at first, but it cleared up toward the end. We did 16 runs in the 2.5 hours that we were there. That’s an average of 9.4 minutes per run, including the 5-6 minute chairlift ride!

Only hit a max speed of 58km/h, but I pulled a 720, and hit some killer jumps with grabs!

There’s been a big mix-up with the Google Team who created the MyTracks app for GPS tracking these trails, and the Google My Maps team. Looks like they decided to discontinue supporting My Maps API, and to start using Google Fusion Tables instead. The MyTracks app team appears to have been caught off guard and is playing catch-up to fix this. For now, they’ve hooked it up so that we can upload our stuff to Fusion Tables, but it’s many extra steps in there to get my maps public so it’s become very frustrating. I hope them come up with a fix soon.
