Well, I just bought a new battery for my camera a couple weeks back and it’s been working great since! About a half hour ago, I went to pull it out of my pocket, and all I got was the hand strap! the camera actually broke apart from the strap!

The camera is still working beautifully, but it’s definitely got many many battle scars by now! The battery compartment closes, but once you open it the battery slides out right away. Normally there’s a little plastic latch to hold it in. The whole thing has a huge creak to it, and the buttons feel like they are super weak. etc etc.

It was 4 minutes and 21 seconds behind, so if you see photos that don’t look like they are where they are supposed to be – this is why.

For those of you who don’t know yet, Jason upgraded his camera from a Nikon D50 to a Nikon D300. It’s a pretty awesome new camera he’s got there…

I went out with him a couple hours ago to do some night photography – my dinky Canon SD1000 versus his amazing new SLR. First, here are two shots my camera managed to pull off with its max of a 15 second shutter at ISO400. I’ve lightened them in post a little.

And here’s a shot I took of Jason at work:

He pulled off a few good shots, but nothing spectacular, as he was learning new tools and such on the thing. Testing it out with things that take lots of time, like noise reduction… sometimes took minutes! Anyways, on the right is an exaggerated shot of me with my super camera, and below I’ve added his best shot at full 12 megapixel resolution with no mod’s. It’s completely unedited, and the only thing done to it is a transfer out of RAW and a compression to a high-quality web jpeg. Click on it and see just how darn big his photos are these days:

PS: Holy crap – the PNG’s Jason exported from his RAW’s for me to edit up for this post were 50 MB each!

My morning kicked off by chatting with Brittany on the webcam, and then having a bowl of cereal with Jessy. He just happened to be over because they’re playing D&D later. My 5 year old cousin Karys has slept over with her parents too, and then I had invited Adrienn, Mark, and Sean over to do a choreographed fight scene for a short film. After the rest of my family woke up too, the house was a zoo! To add to all this, I started up a webcam call with Nate who was over at Christine’s place with Phil and her four roommates. We only saw one of them but technically that would have been 20 people joined between the two houses… However, it was only 19 people because Sean slept in and wasn’t able to come out to shoot because he had school work to do too.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Instead of being able to shoot the fight scene, we brainstormed up a n “Old Country” character for Adrienn, and got outside and shot a funny little short with Mark and I’s Canon SD1000′s. Mark had to leave shortly into post-production, but Adrienn was there until the final render was started, at which point she had to head home for dinner, and I decided to take a nap because I was exhausted because I didn’t get too much sleep last night.
